How To Write Love Letters
Love letters. No other form of written expression is more fun to receive- or more frightening to write! Around since the beginning of time, love letters have enjoyed a broad, varied history in all cultures worldwide. Dating back to 20 B.C., Ovid’s love letters to his wife document the existence of marriage for love even in societies based on arranged marriages. Famous musicians, artists, and politicians as far back as Beethoven and as recent as Ronald Reagan have written love letters that are archived in various print and web sources to enliven lives and encourage lovers around the world.
But what does it take to write a really good love letter? What characteristics do successful love letters share? I expected to find widely varying opinions in my research from culture to culture, and generation to generation. Surprisingly, the characteristics have remained consistent for over two centuries!
